What goes into a PCB board

Layers

A simple sensor or control circuit usually only needs 2 layers. Higher component density, controlled impedance, or high-speed signal integrity is where 4, 6, or 8-layer stacks earn their cost.

Material & finish

FR-4 fibreglass is the default for almost everything; aluminium and Rogers cover thermal and RF-specific builds. Surface finish — HASL, lead-free HASL, or ENIG — affects solderability, shelf life, and cost.

DFM review

Design-for-manufacturing catches trace widths, drill sizes, and annular rings that look fine on screen but fail in production — a real engineer checks every order before it's fabricated, not just an automated rule-check.

What is a PCB (printed circuit board)?

A PCB is the flat board — usually fibreglass (FR-4) — that physically wires a circuit's components together using etched copper traces instead of loose wires. Almost every piece of electronics, from a sensor module to an industrial controller, is built around one.

What's the difference between PCB design and PCB fabrication?

Design is the layout work — placing components and routing copper traces into production-ready Gerber files. Fabrication is physically manufacturing the board from those files.
